Directions:
The 1828 Trail in
is at 10 West Main Street, next to the Monterey House.
West from the C & O Canal Towpath or Rail Trail
Just west of Fort Frederick, you may choose to transfer to the paved Western Maryland Rail Trail. From the towpath turn right onto the access road to the rail trail. A left on the rail trail will bring you into Hancock.
Cross the parking lot and Main Street. We are the large gray Craftsman
house next to the Monterey House. To find parking and bike storage, proceed up
Church Street to High Street. Turn left on High. Our parking lot
is the first left drive on High (Inn sign at the left of the entrance).
Just leave the bikes in the parking lot and come down the brick steps and into the upper
back entrance to the Inn. We will lock up bicycles in the red
building.
East from the C & O Canal Towpath or Rail Trail
At Lock 56, you may choose to transfer to the paved Western Maryland Rail Trail. Turn left on the small access road just before the lock. You will see the beginning of the WMRT on the right. From the towpath or rail trail, turn left on Pennsylvania Ave. (at the C&O Bicycle Shop). Proceed through the light to the 4-way stop at High Street. Turn right on High. Our driveway is several blocks on the right (Inn sign at the right of the entrance).

back entrance to the Inn. We will lock up bicycles in the red
building.
I-70 West
From the Baltimore-Washington area, take
I-70 West to Exit 3 - Hancock (exits from the left). Turn right
at the bottom of the ramp, which is Main Street. Come into town
to Church Street (Lockhouse Restaurant is on the left). Turn right
on Church, proceed to the top of the hill to High Street. Turn
left on High. The driveway to our parking lot is the first left
on High (sign at the left of the entrance). After parking your car, come down the brick steps and into the upper
back entrance to the Inn.
I-68 and I-70 East
From I-68 and I-70 East, take left exit
1-B (Rt. 522 to Hancock, Berkeley Springs, and Winchester). Follow
the signs to Hancock. At Main Street, turn left. Go one block.
Turn left on Virginia Ave. at Sheetz. Go one block to High Street.
Turn right on High, and proceed 4 plus blocks to the Inn Parking
sign on the right. After parking your car, come down the brick steps and into the upper
back entrance to the Inn.
Berkeley Springs (Route 522)
From Berkeley Springs (Route 522), cross over the Potomac River, and turn right onto Route 144 (High Street). Stay on High Street, and proceed 4 plus blocks to the Inn Parking
sign on the right. After parking your car, come down the brick steps and into the upper
back entrance to the Inn.
